Long ago, when I first learned about blogs, I would find one I enjoyed reading, bookmark the address in my favorites, and then I’d go back and check it everyday to see if there was an update. Over time I’d had a favorites folder full of blogs (about 40) I’d check everyday. Imagine how time consuming that was. It was increasing frustrating when I’d go to a blog just to find out it wasn’t updated. I was like going to the mailbox and expecting something and getting nothing.
Until I found out about the Google Reader. I had been Gmail for a while when I found out about it. For those who don’t know, Google Reader is a Web-based aggregator capable of reading Atom and RSS feeds. In English, it’s a service that allows you to add the blogs you read frequently to a subscription within Google. Once you have the “feeds” entered, you only have to check the Google Reader, no more checking each blog. Google Reader will tell which ones have been updated and either let read the entire blog post from the Reader or give you the option to click the link to the blog to read it from that site.
This makes things so much easier. I follow many, many blogs (photography, technology, computers, sports, etc.). Google Reader makes this a piece of cake to do. You do have to sign up for a Google account, but I believe most people have done. Setting things up are so simple, Google always simplifies things. Go GOOGLE!! Once your signed up, you can copy the address of the blog you’d like to add and click ‘Add Subscription’ in the Reader and paste that address in that field. That’s it. Now when you check your blogs, go to the Google Reader and be more productive and waste less time.
