August 30 Wedding

Tomorrow I’ve got a fantastic wedding, but right now I’m absolutely beat.  I thought I’d share one of the bridals we shot a few weeks ago before bed.  I can’t believe I’m getting in bed before 11pm.  Karissa is going to be a fabulous bride.  I’ll share more of the bridals after the wedding.

Have a great weekend.

Lauren & Haley Updated

Here’s a quick post with some new photos of Lauren and Haley.

I just love Haley’s new dress.  She picked it out all on her own.  As soon as I saw, it reminded me of photographer, Jessica Claire’s, new blogsite.  Check it out!

Haley also got her new gold slippers.  Cool!  I swear these kids have at least 50 pair of shoes each.

Meet Holly

Ever since both of my children were little they’ve been afraid of dogs.  So we never had one.  I never had to worry about getting them a dog and having to take care of it.  Until they both decided they wanted one.  One of their friends at school had some puppy’s and they decided they just had to have one.  So we finally got one after it was old enough to leave its mother.

They call her Holly (why, I have no clue).  She’s a mix between a Boston Terrier and a Shih Tzu.  She’s so small right now and shouldn’t get very big.  I’m OK with this right now but man it’s like taking care of another child.

Here’s a quick shot from the other day.  I’ll have some more soon.

The End of Summer and Things to Come

Well summer is pretty over now.  It’s been a great one.  Lauren and Haley swam just about everyday, both of them learned to ride their bikes without training wheels and we lost many teeth.  I went on a cruise in July with some dear friends of mine.  We visited Freeport and Nassau.  We all had a great time despite some sea sickness.

I really do enjoy cruising, especially now since the price of travel is so high.  You play a modest rate which includes everything you need; food, accomodations, entertainment, etc.  Plus with the food you get to eat whatever and whenever you want.  I remember one night I ordered a salad, soup, two lobster tails, 8 giant tiger shrimp, half a prime rib and my favorite the chocolate melting cake.  Plus about an hour prior to dinner I eat a turkey sandwich and a piece of chocolate cake.  It was amazing to see myself all that food expecting to gain some weight finally and gain nothing.  I actually lost weight.  It’s strange.

We also got to go snorkeling.  I was able to find I highly recommended dive shop that picked us up from the ship and took us to two snorkel sites for about 40 minutes each.  The water was crystal clear and warm.  The third and final stop was nothing like the first two.  We went out into deep water and got to snorkel or should I say just float with 10 foot reef sharks.  Those sharks were huge.   It was a nerve racking when one swims by you at your 3 feet.  I’d definitely do it again.

Here’s some of the shots underwater (don’t judge, I took these underwater, in high seas, with one hand all the while surrounded by sharks)

You can see the hook in his mouth.

Now while I took some camera gear, I only took a few fun shots.  I just wanted to relax, take a break and recharge.

Lauren was able to go to summer camp for the first time this year.  She had a great time.  I got a call the night before she came and she was crying.  I thought something was wrong or maybe she was hurt.  No, she was crying because she didn’t want to come home.  I’m so proud of her.  She’ll be 10 next year.  I can’t believe she that old.

Both of the girls took a trip to Syracuse, New York with their great grandparents to visit my Mom, Dad, and sister.  They were gone for about 8 days.  They had a great time but were ready go home after a week.  I missed them terribly when their gone like that.  Their both back in school and learning a lot.

I’m kind of glad summer is over and things are settled.  It’s nice and quiet around her during the day, which is nice.  I’m able to get so much more done without the constant Daddy, Daddy, Daddy going on.

I’ve been working hard recently on a new service that’s going to allow photographers to outsource some of their mundane tasks in do.   I’m hoping to announce something very soon.  I’m getting closer to a soft launch and will be looking to some photographers for some constructive criticism.

I’m looking forward to a wedding a have this weekend.  I will be posting those images on Sunday or Monday.

Until then,

Ciao

The Story of Stuff

While I was out on my little month long break from blogging, I came across a website called “The Story of Stuff”.  The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

The movie presented is one that’ll open your eyes, give you on of those ‘ah ha’ moments.  I personally agree with Annie on these issues we face, but a lot of what’s conveyed will be hard to change.  We are a “stuff’ driven society.  I, myself, was a stuff person until I realized that it made no sense having it.  My shopping habits these days has changed dramatically.  I seriously think about every non-essential thing I buy these days.  I pick it up and say “do I really need these?”, or “how will this improve things?”.

What kind of stuff can you eliminate?

Check out the movie Annie has put together along with Tide Foundation.  Click here to watch the movie or click one of the banners below.

Well I’m Back! Finally!!

Wow, the last real post I made was on July 16th. Over a month ago. I needed some time to sort out many things in my life. I had a cruise vacation with three awesome friends, I got the girls ready and off to school, and had a little time to rest and reflect on the past year. I sat down and evaluated my life and my business, and developed a short and long term plan for both (harder than I thought). I planned where I wanted to be in 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years. Now that that’s completed and I’ve had time to adjust to things, I believe I’m ready to go. One of the things that spurred me to do these is a book by Dane Sanders called Fast Track Photographer. It talks about finding out what your strenghts and weaknesses are and building an action plan to maximize yourself and put yourself on the Fast Track. I’ll talk more about Dane and Fast Track Photographer later this week.

I’ve also being growing, or at least trying to grow, closer with God. It amazes me how He can take control of my life and guide me through things I think are impossible. I know God has a plan for me and the more I put my faith in Him the more clearer it becomes. I can’t thank Him enough for the things He’s already done for me, but I know there’s more in store here and I can’t wait to discover it.

You may have noticed the new layout as well. I am almost finished with the final pieces, so if something isn’t working right, let me know with an e-mail at kent@lawrencekent.com. Also, the new permanent website is almost complete. I only have a few pages to finish and I’ll launch that along with an exciting announcement. Hopefully everything will be released on Monday.

That’s about it for today. I’ll be posting new images of Lauren and Haley soon along with more about Dane Sanders and Fast Track Photographer. I’m also going to be writing about David Jay and the Free to Succeed Tour which is coming to the South soon. I can’t wait until that. David Jay rocks.

Have a great Wednesday!

I’m Back

After about a month off to realign things, get the kids back in school, I’M BACK.  I’ve so much to post about.  Check back later today for more.
