Allison & Jonathan’s Engagement Session

On Saturday, I had an engagement session with Allison & Jonathan.  We started at Augusta State University were both were students.  We also made a trip out to Spring Lakes to get a couple were Jonathan proposed to Allison.

Here’s a before-and-after shot.  I’ve been trying out some of the new TRA actions.  Which do you like the best?

Jonathan showed me were he had carved they initials into the bridge.  Sweeeeeeeeeet!!!

I love this next series of shots.  I’ll let you add your own caption.

I had such a great time with these two Saturday.  I’ll have their wedding in May 2009 and I’m sure it’s gonna rock!

Have a great week!

Fireproof

The movie “Fireproof” came out Friday nationwide.  Go see it.  You’ll be glad you did.  Here’s the excerpt from Apple’s Movie Site:

At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter’s adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules. After seven years of marriage, Caleb and Catherine Holt have drifted so far apart that Catherine wishes she had never married. As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb’s father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment he calls “The Love Dare.” When Caleb discovers the book’s daily challenges are tied into his parents’ newfound faith, his already limited interest is further dampened. Is it too late to fireproof his marriage? Caleb Holt’s job is to rescue others, but now he has to face his toughest job ever … rescuing his wife’s heart.

Allison & Jonathan’s Engagement Sneak Peek

I grab a shot from the Allison and Jonathan’s engagement session on Saturday.  I can’t wait to show you the rest.  They did an awesome job.

A Quick One from Anna Ruby Falls

Canon 5D Mark II

Well Canon finally released new 5D Mark II.  I had been tossing around thenotion of getting the first 5D that was released several year because of the full-frame sensor, the low noise at high ISO’s, the brillant colors it produced, and the sweet price drop as of late.

The new one has everything but the kitchen sink.  It can capture up to 21 megapixel images which will be great for those large 40×60 or 24×36 premium prints.  It also has two small RAW modes which will allow me to take plenty of shots at a wedding without filling up memory cards but still capture in the RAW format.  It comes with the Live View mode like my 40D, it has the 2 High ISO setting for me to be able and shoot at ultra low light levels, a newly improved 3″ LCD, and the DIGIC 4 processor.  It also has a new feature that I think is the first on the market.  It can capture High Definition video at 1920×1080 pixels.  That’s a first for DSLR cameras.   It also allows us to capture still images and video with one piece of equipment and still use the awesome Canon EF lenses.  The camera also provides an HDMI output for quick and easy HD viewing.

It has so many new features, but those are just a few.  The 5D Mark II should be for sale by late November starting at $2,699.  Needless to say, I’ll be picking one of those up around that time.  Check it out below.

With the battery grip.

I can’t to get this and start shooting some awesome weddings with it.  Check out the review on dpreview.com here.

A Cool Time Waster

I came across a pretty cool website the other day that is a neat time waster.  You can click here to check out Wordle.  Wordle is a web app that creates some very cool word clouds.  You can create word clouds by just typing in words, by getting Wordle to put words for a blog RSS feed, or  from a del.icio.us user name.  You can customize the font, background and foreground colors, word orientation, etc.  You can then save the word cloud to your gallery and then put it onto your blog or facebook page.

Here’s one I did from my blog.  Try it out.

Another Silent Mentor – [b]

Yesterday, I talked about David Jay’s being one of my silent mentors, and while I don’t have many other silent mentors, I do have one.  It’s Chris Becker, or as EVERYONE else knows him as [b]ecker.  [b]ecker is a Southern California wedding photographers who takes some of the most amazing photos of weddings.  But, that’s not really why I consider him to be one of my silent mentors.

[b]ecker is also one of the many photographers who really helped start the sharing of knowledge movement/idea.  Like DJ, he was one of the first photographers I kind of latched onto when I started.  Not only are his images inspiring but his business knowledge is amazing.  He has completely streamlined how a wedding photography business should be one.  I think he should write book or guide to it.

Most recently he’s started his [b] school.  A place where photographers can go and get help, learn, share and help create an awesome online community that everyone benefits from.  The [b] School officially launches on October 1st, but [b]ecker has been putting up video shorts all year in preparation of the launch.  He’s talked about the business side of things, his workflow, referrals, some behind-the-scenes Photoshop work, and so much more.  Even if your not a photographer, I encourage you to go check out some of the videos.  You check ‘em out over at thebschoolblog.com.

As you can in the photo below from his blog he’s someone with such an awesome personality and has great charisma.  Can’t wait for the [b] school open.  We all want to get better.  You can always get better.

Check out the [b] school trailer.

Check back on Tuesday or Wednesday and I’ll a full report from DJ’s Free to Succeed Tour. Have a Great Week!
