Happy New Year

I just wanted to wish everyone a very safe and happy New Year.  I didn’t anything planned until Kyle and I decided to go eat and then go on a short New Years Eve photo safari around Augusta.  We leaving early to beat the dinner crowds and I hope to be safely back home around 9:00 pm.  I guess getting older is keeping me a little more grounded.  I like being at home anyway.  I’l post some of the photos from tonight in the next couple of days, so stay tuned.

Also, stay tuned because tomorrow I plan on announcing two super awesome initiatives for 2009.  They are going to nothing less than spectacular and anyone is going to want to participate.  Check back tomorrow for more details.

Be safe an Happy New Year!!

We’re all shut down now and will re-open for business on January 12, 2009.  I will be blogging over the holidays a little.  I am looking forward to a little relaxation before the new year.  That week between Christmas and New Years is always a fun time.  I usually get to see people I haven’t seen in awhile during that time.  Plus all the leftovers and goodies are there to fill up on.

I will be taking any appointments for weddings or portraits over the holidays, just shoot me an e-mail if you’d like to set something up.  E-mail me here: kent@lawrencekent.com

And in parting, last night the girls and I visited the Partridge Inn with my super fantastic cousin Sarah to take a few photos.  The decor at the Partridge Inn is so nice.  We had dinner at the Chophouse and visited the Peach Mac store afterwards (what a drag, more about that later).  Here’s a few shots from last night.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Apple at Christmas

This year I finally made the decision to switch from using PC’s for my business over the Apple Mac computers.  And how glad I am I did.  In the spring, I purchased a 24″ iMac from the Refurbished Apple Program.  I couldn’t have been happier with this program Apple offers.  I got my iMac basically 35% off the normal price.  When I got it out of the box, it was basically brand new – new screen, mouse, keyboard, etc.  Apple took great care in making sure everything was in working order.  I also got the 3 year AppleCare (which I recommend for everything).  So I’m covered if anything were to happen.  The system I got only came with 1GB of RAM, which with Photoshop and Final Cut Express, you need much more.  I quickly ordered the maximum amount of RAM from Crucial.com to get the system up to speed.  Now my system runs like a champ and I am oh so happy.  Anyone interested in getting a Mac this season should definitely check out the Refurbished Program from Apple.

Now most recently, I went ahead and upgraded my laptop from my old 15″ HP Pavilion Notebook to the new aluminum 13.3″ MacBook.  This is Apple’s new line of notebook that are built using one piece of solid aluminum.  While the MacBook smaller than my old HP, it’s still way better.  I’m able to get everything done quickly and improve my workflow with my MacBook.  Also, when I went to purchase my MacBook, I thought well I could just order it from Apple or pick one up at Best Buy (because we don’t have a Apple store here), but I thought about a new little store that opened here in October.  It’s PeachMac is Evans, Georgia.  They’re a small business with one store in Athens, Georgia and now one here.  They are an authorized Apple Reseller and offered great.  I decided to support my small businesses here as they help support me.  We gotta stick together here folks.

Anyway, I really enjoy my iMac and MacBook and will be looking to add more Apple hardware to the equipment lineup in the new year.  I think I smell the Airport Extreme or Time Capsule coming up.  Below are the two ads Apple released for the Holidays this year.  These ads getting funnier and funnier.

Have a great day!

Jasmine*’s New Video

Jasmine Star (Jasmine*), a Southern California Wedding Photographer, recently had a promotional video produced by Lorimerworks.  Jasmine* talks about the moments that we as wedding photographers look to capture.  She says, “It’s the moment of, it’s the moment right before or right after”.  I couldn’t agree with her more.  Today’s style is the moment.  We capture the moment.  It’s amazing to see how far and fast Jasmine has come in such a short time as the wedding photographer.  Go check out some of her awesomeness over at http://www.jasmine-star.com.

This video is truly a great example of what you should look for in a wedding photographer.  Enjoy the video!

Part 3 of [b]ecker’s Interview on F-Stop Beyond

Here’s the 3rd part of [b]ecker’s interview by Ron Dawson of F-Stop Beyond.

[b]ecker on F-Stop Beyond

Awhile ago I talked about [b]ecker being sort of a silent mentor of mine.  He’s got a great business knowledge, an awesome passion for wedding photography and a killer sense of pride.  Recently, Ron Dawson from Cinematic Studios and F-Stop Beyond interviewed [b]ecker and I thought I’d post the video series as they come out.  The first two have been released and the remaining ones should be out shortly.  Thanks to Ron Dawson and everything he does for the photographic community.
