Wedding Tip of the Week: Jan 28, 2009

Hello everyone!  Here’s this week’s wedding tip brought to you from the great people over at LifeTips.com.  This weeks tips talks about your all important reception.  My opinion is that your reception should reflect your personality.  Your reception might be colorful and vibrant, or maybe the classy modern look is your style.  Whatever your style is, make sure you stick to what you want and that is fits well with you and or new mates personality.

Here’s the tip…  Enjoy!

Life, the Universe and Everything in Your Wedding

Where do you get your wedding reception ideas? How do you decide between a formal dinner and a buffet? Do you really want to create a seating chart for 200 people? Do you want to embrace the pomp and the circumstance of the receiving line? Where do you look for your wedding reception ideas? The answer to that is a simple one. You look to your own life, the life of your soon to be spouse and you find the a happy middle ground that satisfies you both.

The wedding reception is the first major event hosted by you and your new spouse. It’s a function that celebrates your marriage and invites all of your family and friends to celebrate alongside you. The reception is as much for your guests as it is for you. In fact, in many cases your wedding reception will continue after you and your new spouse leave it to head out for the honeymoon.

Wedding reception ideas come from mixing both the drama and the fantasy in our lives. Think of a romantic setting that you’d like to share with your wedding guests and create it. If that means creating a beautiful outdoor setting with tents and paper lanterns that mix both natural and quiet illuminations as well as dramatic shadows; then that’s what you do.

Your wedding reception ideas might include a brightly lit room with colorful decorations, loud music and lots of group dances. Your wedding reception ideas have to come from who the two of you are individually and who you want to be together. It’s the first couple of paragraphs in the new chapter of your lives. So create the setting you want to be seen in and you want to enjoy in and that’s where your wedding reception ideas come from.

A Day in the Life of Scarlett Lillian

My rockstar photographer friend, Scarlett Lillian, is from Jacksonville, Florida.  I try and meet up with her each time to go to visit my grandparents in Jacksonville.  It seems for the past couple of years, she’s been in absolute overdrive.  I’ve seen her go from a newbie in the wedding photography world to complete stardom.  She recently began offering her “Spend A Day with Scarlett” for photographers, where you can hang out and learn from her.  This year she’s giving her first (I believe) workshop in Las Vegas at WPPI (more about WPPI to come).  It’s a night shoot in downtown Las Vegas.  I will definitely be attending this workshop.

So Scarlett has been absolutely busy as she can be.  She recently produced her busy December 2008 where she seemed to be “out of control” busy.  Below is her Episode 1 of “My Life. In Front of the Camera”.  Watch it and head on over to Scarlett’s blogsite for a look into her awesomeness.

Cheers everyone!

Kim & Adam’s Engagement Session

Kim and Adam hadn’t planned on an engagement session, but still needed some images for their invitation.  We decided that we’d shoot a few at the venue where they would be getting married in April.  Despite it being chilly, we got some nice shots.  Very nice light and some excellent backgrounds.  I love these guys, they’re awesome.  There is a story behind the venue selection, but I’ll leave that story to the post for the wedding.

Here’s a few of my favorites.

Which do you like best? The SOCC (straight out of the camera) or the antique one (made with Lux from TRA2).

My 30th Birthday

Going through photos last night I realized that I didn’t blog about my 30th Birthday party I had.  I had a couple of close out to the Snug for dinner and then to the Partridge Inn for cocktails.  We all that a great time and the food at the Snug is always top notch.  I remember I had posted several photos to Facebook but not on my blog, where most everyone comes to the read and see to photos.

Augusta Snow Day 2009

Now while it is rare that we see snow in Augusta, GA, we did see some on Tuesday.  Both of the girls were already out of school, so even if we did have any accumulation of snow, it didn’t matter because of the school holiday.  It was pretty seeing it come down and we all had fun watching it and playing outside for a while.

I shot some video with my new Flip Video Camera.  Check it out below.

And as a little side note about the Flip Video Camera by Mino.  This little camera is the best.  It’s about the size of your average mobile phone, shoots excellent video (I have the HD one), has a sleek USB pop-out for easy downloading, and comes with the software to edit clips, send video cards or e-mails, make DVD’s, etc.  If you’ve been looking for a video camera that won’t break the bank, check the Flip out.

I’ve also been super busy booking wedding and getting ready for the wedding season.  A lot of the dates are filling up but I still have some to fill.  It’s going to be a super busy season this year and I can’t wait to get started.

–Cheers

Lauren & Andrew’s Engagement Guestbook

I finished the rough design for Lauren & Andrew’s Engagement Guestbook.  You may ask, “What is an engagement guestbook?”  The engagement guestbook is basically the replacement to the normal paper guestbook with lined pages you’d sign at a wedding.  The engagement guestbook we offer is 1000% better.  It’s a premium style album with textured paper that accepts ink very well.  We design the book with images from the couples engagement session and leave of room for guests to write their well wishes or short notes to the newly married couple.  Everyone loves these and the made with the same quality materials that the final wedding album made of, so they compliment each other well.

I love designing these for clients. Below are a few examples of their book.  To see the entire design, CLICK HERE!  The finished product will be in a horizontal layout measuring 12″ x 8″.  When you look at each spread remember you’re looking at the book as if were open in your lap.  You’re looking at 2 pages (1 spread).
