The Sapp Family – Evans Family Photography

I’ve known the Sapps for about five years now.  Michael is the minister of music and discipleship at the church I attend, Fleming Baptist.  Christen is a 2nd grade teacher at Hillcrest Baptist School.  Their oldest son, Conner, is a on his way to being a genius.  I look at some of the books he’s reading, go, “Wow, I don’t even read that”.  The kid really super smart.  And then there’s Max.  Where do I start. Energetic? Wild? Untamable? Yes, yes and yes and probably many others.  This kid is a riot.

We had a short session in Evans at the public library.  We shot everything right at dusk when the light (or magic hour) was perfect.

Here’s a several from the session.

Here’s boy genius Conner. Not really warmed up for the camera yet.

Oh, and the many faces of Max.  He was insistent on sticking his tongue out.

After finally sending the parents away and the promises of candy and chocolate, he sat nicely for me.

Giving is Awesome

Over the holidays I took time to do a little thinking.  I thought about my kids and how much I love them, about my family, my church, my relationship with Christ, my friends, my health and many other things.  I also began to think how fortunate I was to have what I have.  One Saturday while I was wrapping gifts for family and friends I realized that I truly enjoyed giving gifts more than receiving.  As weird as it may seem, I enjoyed thinking about the gift I was giving (instead of going the easy route with a gift card or some regular same ole same ole present), the presentation of the gift through the choice of gift wrap and the neatness to how I wrapped it, and the reaction of the person receiving the gift.  It was at that moment that I decided to give much more of myself in 2009 and going forward.  No matter the cost.  But how?

Well, I’ve come with two major initiatives.

#1 – Giving is Awesome: Giving back to those really deserve it.

#2 – Support those fighting for our freedom overseas.

In this post I will be explaining the first initiative – Giving is Awesome.

Here’s the details.

You know someone. You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances. You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $900 worth, to be exact. The winner receives 2 photo sessions, a premier online slideshow, and a $400 product credit.  Whether it’s a canvas or albums, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over, it’s in your power to give them the artwork they deserve.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a photo session and a $100 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be, people?

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in Augusta/Aiken area. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

*This contest will be held 4 times this year.  Contest #1 runs between January 2 to March 31.  Contest #2 runs between April 1 to June 30.  Contest #3 runs between July 1 to September 30.  And contest #4 runs between October 1 to December 24.

*The contest deadlines will be on the last day of the contest at 11:59pm.

* You must e-mail me the full story : kent@lawrencekent.com

The winner will be announced 3 days following the contest end date — so get nominating! I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this year — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

With love,

Lawrence Kent

The second initiative will be posted on Monday, January 5, 2009, so check back then to read about that.  It’s AWESOME too!

The Twins

A few Saturday’s ago, I got to photograph the children of some of my best friends.  Here’s the odd (I guess odd) things.  My two friends are twin sisters.  Ironically, both twin sisters both had sets of twins.  Crazy!  God Bless them.

All four of their kids are adorable.  Here’s a couple of the day.

In case you haven’t noticed, I design of the blog has changed.  The main reason for the switch is because it allows me to post large photos.  Bigger is better, right?  The new design also has a sweet flash header and rotates through some pretty cool images.  I hope everyone likes it.  I will be finishing some of the backend coding this weekend, but it shouldn’t affect anything.

Freebie Days

On November 1, 2008, I will be hosting the first of many Freebie Days to come.  I will out at two locations on Saturday afternoon, so come on out at get some free photos.  Bring your pets, your children, the whole family, the entire family, or get a nice Facebook Photo.  You could get your photo taken for Christmas cards and gifts this year.  You can come in your Halloween costume for all I care.  Anything you want — it doesn’t matter!!  Below are the details of the locations and times where I’ll be.  Remember to tell all your friends or just bring them with you.

New Shots of Max

It’s been a while since I last posted. I’ve had internet connection problems all week. I was completely aggrevated but I think I’ve got it fixed now.

Last Saturday, I got to take some new pictures of Max and Connor. Max recently turned two. Max is like the Energizer Bunny, he’s keeps going, and going, and you get the pictures. He did such a good job me. Here’s a few.

Addison Layne: 4 Months

On Saturday, I went got to visit the Addison Layne for her 3 month old session. It was actually her 4 month old session, because we couldn’t shoot her at three months due to her being sick. I can’t believe Addison is already 4 months old. Here are the links to her hospital photos.

Addison is such a happy baby. She was perfect the entire time. It was so good to see her able hold her head up and rollover. It makes me remember when both of my girls were this age.

I also spotted this cool little pyramid of diapers made up so nicely. When I asked about it, I found the one of my brides, Valerie made it. I had never seen something like it. Leave it to Valerie to be so creative.
